GET in the mood to lift your spirits at a free workshop in Dorchester.

Author and international speaker Vanda North will teach techniques on how to control moods so they don’t control you.

Phoenix Legacy will host the event at Dorchester library and learning centre on Saturday, from noon to 4pm.

It is part of Mood Books Month and there are other workshops lined up on creative writing, poetry writing and public speaking by local experts.

All the information can be found at the library’s information desk.

If you feel like trying your hand at philosophy, Portland Philosophy Cafe members will be in the library to help you share your thoughts on a variety of topics. The event also includes the finals of the Dorset Writers Network flash fiction competition.

The contestants had to write a 300-word story containing the line: ‘I definitely was not in the mood.’ Casterbridge Speakers Club will also be giving a demonstration of speeches to generate different moods and the winner will be chosen by audience vote.
