A WEYMOUTH man accused of kicking his former partner’s door at least 40 times has admitted causing criminal damage.

Nigel Evans, aged 43, of Canterbury Close, appeared at Weymouth Magistrates’ Court charged with causing criminal damage to Lindsay Hoddy’s property in Granby Close.

The court heard Evans arrived at Ms Hoddy’s property in the early hours of the morning after returning from a night out.

The couple were no longer together, magistrates heard.

Elizabeth Valera, prosecuting, read from Ms Hoddy’s statement to the police. Ms Hoddy describes Evans hitting the glass and wooden panels on her front door before she opened it slightly to calm him down.

Ms Hoddy said: “I closed the door and he started kicking the door more violently. I estimate he kicked the door in excess of 40 times whilst I was on the phone to the police.”

Max Owen, representing Evans, said his client was drunk at the time but disputed how many times he had kicked the door.

Mr Owen said: “He very inappropriately, as he recognised, banged on the door.

“It must have at the very least been irritating, if not distressing.”

Evans was ordered to pay £200 compensation to Ms Hoddy, a £100 fine as well as being asked to pay £85 in costs.
