A COMMUNITY Interest Company is being set up to protect arts-related services across Dorset.
The CIC, which will be called the Arts Development Company, will be an independent employee-owned company, supported by Dorset County Council.
The council says the initiative is the first of its kind in the UK and will open up doors for new income streams, including funding from the National Lottery, as well as private investment and charitable giving.
The plans have been endorsed by the Arts Council England and the new CIC |will start trading in April |2015.
Cllr Colin Jamieson, cabinet member for community services, said: “The aim of the CIC is to work in a more |creative way and take advantage of funding opportunities not open to local authorities.”
