THE Weymouth branch of the national charity Samaritans is appealing for more volunteers to help the organisation deliver its service.
The charity, which is based at King Street, is appealing for members of the public to help out at the charity as listening and support volunteers.
Listening volunteers answer the phones, emails and text messages and see visitors who come to the door.
Kate, director of the Weymouth branch, said: “We are there to listen to anybody who is feeling depressed, lonely and perhaps so low the thought of suicide is a real possibility, although we would hope that people would ring and talk to us before that becomes a reality for them.”
The charity offers people who are feeling seriously depressed confidential support and gives them a chance to talk through their problems on the phone or in person.
Phone lines are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and the branch is manned by a bunch of committed volunteers to help with the staffing of the office, but also other fundraising and support initiatives the charity has in the pipeline.
