A DARING dad inspired by baby daughter who suffers from a rare genetic condition braved a body wax and raised more than £1,000 for Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Little 11-month-old Bethany Leonard sufferers from congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH), a life-long condition which affects the adrenal glands.

Her dad, 30-year-old Daniel Leonard from Weymouth, braved a leg, back and chest wax to mark CAH awareness month and to raise money for the endocrine research fund at the hospital.

The fund receives limited funding as the condition is not very widely known.

Daniel, a support worker, headed down to LA Confidential in the Colwell Shopping centre to brave the wax.

Bethany’s mum, 33-year-old Vicki Leonard said: "We managed to raise more than £1,000 altogether and I want to thank everyone involved, especially Daniel, Samantha Nel, Denise English and Sammie Richards at LA Confidential and to all those sponsors and supporters we had to help us raise awareness for our daughters condition during CAH awareness month.

"Bethany is one on July 8 and this has meant a lot to us, getting the love and support we have felt from friends family and strangers.

"Dan was amazing during the waxing I couldn't believe it."

Bethany is at risk from fatal adrenal crisis from minor illnesses and something as simple as a fever or vomiting can be life-threatening.

Her emergency medication has to be on hand at all times and her first emergency injection was given when she was just 17 days-old.

Vicki said: "She may be the happiest baby ever; she smiles all day every day.

"Her birth was traumatic - we were in hospital for some time while they ran tests and monitored her.

"We are trying to create new and happier memories to mark her first birthday."

The couple also held a raffle on the day and had received prizes from a lot of companies including Tanya's Treats, the Rembrandt Hotel, Weymouth Skate Park, Weymouth and Portland Sailing Club and others.
