FAMILY and friends of a Weymouth dad who collapsed and died at a New Year’s Eve party have organised a charity event in his memory for the second year running.

Jonathan Clark, known as Joffy died aged 27 after collapsing at a party in 2013.

He worked at Daniel’s Fish and Chips in Littlemoor and left behind his partner Claire Wootton and his son Cohan, who is now three.

Following the success of their first fundraising event last year that raised nearly £2,000, Claire and her friends and family are organising another action packed family fun day, including a six-a-side football tournament, at Willowbed Hall in Chickerell.

There will also be stalls, a bouncy castle and fun and games.

Claire said: "Joffy passed away due to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a form of sudden death syndrome.

"The amazing charity, Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY), have helped support families similar to us who have lost someone dear to them.

"They hold different community events throughout the year for the bereaved and also offer screenings from the age of 14 years old to monitor and prevent cardiac related deaths.

"The research is ongoing and they are continuing to find a cause for this horrifying syndrome.

"I’m really trying to help them raise as much money as possible so they can continue to help support and research.

"It’s such a common condition in the young fit and healthy and it needs to be prevented.

"Last year we raised just under £2,000 and this year I’d like to raise more and make it bigger and better.

"I’m looking for sponsorship to help build an amazing fun day for everyone."

CRY is a charity helping to raise awareness of cardiac risk, Sudden Cardiac Death and Sudden Death Syndrome.

The organisation promotes the heart screening of young people aged 14 to 35 and offers support to those who have suffered the loss of a loved one or friend.

The fundraiser is being held on Saturday July 4 from 1pm until 5pm.
