HUNT the bee, plot the spot and get aboard for a host of outdoor activities at Lodmoor Ahoy!

The Friends of Lodmoor Country Park are inviting families to join them on Sunday, July 19 for their free annual event.

The exploration and discovery activities - from "Hunt the Bee" to "Plot the Spot" - for children aged from three to 12 are being supplemented by a Green Gym Jog, involving a gentle circuit of the five Green Gym stations, with rewards for participants.

Fixbike's Nigel Bowkett, appearing as"Dr Bike", will be showing people how to safety check their cycles, and the council's Travel Dorset team is providing materials and information on sustainable travel and local cycleways.

The South Dorset Tai Chi Group will be running through their health-building exercises, with a taster session for the public, and a display of skilful Tai Chi sword moves, demonstrating the links between the popular modern routines that encourage well-being and ancient martial arts.

Dorset Wildlife Trust will be attending with fun activities and information, promoting the Lorton Valley Nature Park which encompasses Lodmoor Country Park and the DWT's Lorton Meadows.

The Magna Carta Project artwork recently installed on the fence between St. John's School & the park has created a welcome additional attraction, and will feature in a quiz.

The country park businesses will be joining in the fun, and refreshments will be available at 5J's Café.

Friends member Dinah Ellis said: "This is a chance for us to showcase all the natural and man-made features the country park has to offer. The green gym equipment is very popular but requires constant maintenance, so we are keen to attract supporters to help us fund this, and to highlight that the wooden green gym is specifically for the under 12's.

"We are particularly pleased to be hosting the Tai Chi demonstration, as this could be the start of another popular keep fit activity in the park, particularly for those for whom cycling and running is not suitable.

"We'd like to encourage everyone to don their sporty gear and come to the park - There are racks of for bikes, and plenty of parking in the newly-refurbished Beach Car Park."

The "Lodmoor Ahoy!" base will be at the Galleon Play Area of Lodmoor Country Park, and the event runs from 1.00 p.m. to 3.30 p.m. Sunday, July 19
