ORGANISERS of the first meeting of a new group to boost business on and around the Granby Industrial Estate in Weymouth have hailed it a success.
More than 40 guests attended the Granby Business Breakfast at Weymouth Football Club, launched by Batterns Solicitors and supported by Weymouth and Portland Chamber of Commerce.
The law firm, which opened a new office on the Granby at Oxford Court last summer, launched the new initiative with the Chamber to bring businesses together and to facilitate greater awareness of local businesses and increase trade between them.
Jon Dobson, senior associate solicitor-advocate at Battens’ Granby office, said: “It was a great start to our Granby Business Breakfasts and a very enjoyable event.
“The breakfasts aim to give businesses in the Granby area the opportunity to get to know each-other, develop good relationships and find out more about each-others’ goods, services and expertise.
“The more businesses that are involved, the greater chance there is to help each-other and do more business locally.”
Speaker Angela Loveless, head of debt recovery at Battens Solicitors, gave an insight into her department’s varied work and wide range of services.
Julie Cleaver from Popcorn Marketing gave guests food for thought about their businesses with her talk, 'Getting Your Business Seen in 2016', while Clive Garman from Sherrens Print spoke in the first 'Meet the Neighbours' slot and Andrew Knowles focused on social media.
Cherise Luke-Bennett, senior associate solicitor at Battens, added: “We want to offer our great thanks to Weymouth Football Club and the staff there for helping us hold this event as well to all of the speakers, guests and the Granby Diner, which supplied the food.”
The Granby Business Breakfasts are being held on the last Tuesday of the month with the next on Tuesday, February 23 in the larger upstairs function room at Weymouth FC’s Bob Lucas Stadium.
The breakfasts run from 7am to 8.30am, with free car parking. Bookings are already open for the next meeting. The cost is £8 per person.
