A HAPPY youngster from Dorchester will be hitting the road on his new mountain bike.
Elijah Sappleton, 13, who attends Westfield Arts College, was all smiles when he received his new bike. The new wheels, provided through Mid Dorset Mencap using money donated by Brit Valley Lodge, will give him more freedom and allow mum Amanda to join her son on rides.
Amanda said: “Eli needs to be supervised all the time but being able to ride the bike gives him a feeling of freedom and that is lovely to see.”
Mid Dorset Mencap is a charity raising funds to improve the quality of life for people with learning disabilities and their families.
Chairman Tim Malins, also director of ceremonies at Brit Valley Lodge, said: “We are so pleased to present the bike to Eli. You just have to see at the smile on his face to know that it will make a difference to him.”
He added his thanks to Dorchester-based Autobitz, which supplied the bike and accessories, including a safety strap and helmet, at cost price.
