MOTORISTS were held up after a lorry shed part of its load of scaffolding during rush-hour in Dorchester earlier this evening.

The obstruction in Weymouth Road next to the football ground roundabout was reported to Dorset Police.

The road was left partially blocked as the scene was cleared.

Three men were seen picking up scattered scaffolding poles that had come away from the lorry and fell into bushes near a cycle path.

Two of the men were other drivers that had stopped to help the driver re-load the vehicle.

Driver Steve Thomson who works for a company in Somerset said: “I stopped just to help a fellow driver."

A police officer speaking at the scene said he arrived on the scene at approximately 6.15pm following reports of the vehicle obstructing the road.

He said: “Given that it’s Friday and people are driving home and it’s a cycle path, nobody was injured which was the main thing.”

The driver of the lorry did not wish to comment.

The traffic was busy on the roundabout but moving slowly while the incident was cleared up.
