Coastguards and lifeboat crews rescued a boat that had run aground in Swanage Bay.

When the team got to their base yesterday morning, they spotted a drifting vessel about to hit a jetty.

They immediately went to help out and called the coastguard’s National Maritime Operations Centre in Fareham.

A spokesman for the Swanage coastguards said: “Both Swanage RNLI lifeboats launched along with the coastguard deploying for a possible water rescue.

“The lifeboats arrived and quickly got the vessel under tow. The two on board the boat were surprised their anchor had dragged and with the weather pushed them ashore.”

The lifeboat was able to pull the boat free and it was towed to safety in Poole Harbour.
