AFTER celebrating its four-year anniversary, Wool Community Library continues to be a hive of activity.

The community-run library has recently hosted a lively and successful children's event as well as launching a new service.

The digital morning saw youngsters amuse themselves with miniature robots called Ozobots under the guidance of volunteers Sue and Andrew Kerr with assistance from David Smith and Jane Pearson.

By drawing out a map of coded instructions the robots were programmed to follow a route and instructed to change colour and direction.

The children were increasingly inventive in commanding their robots and also went on to work with programmes that turned balls of Playdough into pianos and bongo drums when linked to a small laptop.

The session aimed to get children having fun while using technology whole providing a great hands on learning experience.

Alongside the children's event, Woll Community Library was also delighted to launch its first session by its Digital Champion Matt Ingram.

Matt is able to assist any of the adult library users who want help or advice with their laptops, tablets or smartphones.

Three people attended the first free advice sessions and Matt is looking to announce a regular weekly slot as soon as possible.

Sue Kerr, who is current chairman of the Friends of Wool Library said: "We were very lucky to be able to borrow the Ozobots and other equipment from Dorset Library Service for our half-term event.

"We are keen to diversify our offer to our local community and further extend our outreach.

"We are already seeing an increase in use since the withdrawal of the mobile library service to our outlying villages.

"We look forward to developing our Digital Champion service.”
