The stars of a major West End musical are turning Weymouth Pavilion into a ‘House of Fun’ as they bring their show to the resort.

Our House, featuring the songs of Madness, kicked off last night in a wave of music, dance and colour.

The show, which can be seen at the theatre until Saturday and stars Emmerdale’s Deena Payne and Britain’s Got Talent winner George Sampson, features Madness’ most popular songs such as Baggy Trousers, Wings of a Dove and It Must Be Love.

The Echo spoke to George and Deena at the Pavilion ahead of yesterday’s matinee performance.

Deena said: “Weymouth is just lovely, it’s welcoming and the audience (on Tuesday night) were great. The Pavilion is a lovely theatre too, it has a great essence.”

She said of the show: “It’s such a good storyline and it’s so cleverly done and well written by Tim Firth. And of course I like Madness’ music, everybody does, you can’t help but like it.

“It’s such a brilliant cast, they’re all lovely people. I’ve been in a lot of casts over the years but this is the best one I have worked with.”

Our House tells the story of how on the night of main character Joe’s 16th birthday, he faces a split-second decision which will change his life.

It follows two very different paths that his life could take following that night, as he switches between alternate lives of ‘Good Joe’ and ‘Bad Joe’.

George plays the character of Reecey, a troublemaker who is a bad influence on Joe, played by Jason Kajdi.

He said: “It’s different to play the baddie, it’s just so fun. It’s not the type of show for people to sit quietly and watch either.

"We want people to drink and get up and dance and join in, we encourage it.”

George stole the nation’s heart with his street dancing on Britain’s Got Talent in 2008. He has spent a lot of time in Dorset, as his girlfriend Lauren has family in Wimborne.

He said: “It’s exciting to be here.

“I love Weymouth, I love all seaside towns and everyone is really friendly.

"We’re a family cast and everyone’s got great banter. I’ll be sad to finish but then there’s the excitement of starting a new chapter.”

The cast have been touring across the country since August and have just a few more dates left before the show finishes on November 25.

Our House is at Weymouth Pavilion until November 18, with a matinee performance on Saturday.
