A CAR ended up on its roof after a crash in Weymouth.

Shop workers and residents of Abbotsbury Road heard a crash yesterday lunchtime as a blue Vauxhall Corsa travelling away from Weymouth clipped the side of a parked Nissan Qashqai.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said the car, driven by a 19-year-old woman, then rolled over onto a red Vauxhall Astra that was travelling in the opposite direction.

Dorset Police and ambulance crews attended the crash and police officers set up two diversions around the accident site.

Eye witnesses said the teenager managed to wriggle out of the car.

Speaking at the scene PC Andy Loveless said that the girl was taken to Dorset County Hospital with cuts and bruises but said that it was more as a precaution.

He said: “She clipped the parked car and rolled over into the red Vauxhall Astra.

He added that no one had been in the parked car at the time of the incident.

PC Loveless said: “A gentleman was in the Astra travelling towards the town. He was shocked but okay. He didn’t need treatment.”

The driver of the Nissan Qashqai, Annie Bartzsch, had just finished having a manicure at Facial Attraction beauty salon and was chatting to staff about her Jack Russell, Sammi.

She said she felt very lucky that she was not in the car at the time.

Mrs Bartzsch, an air hostess, said: “If I hadn’t stopped to talk about my dog I would have been in there and they said I would have had whiplash.”

She added: “I feel very lucky.”

The force of the impact lifted the front of Mrs Bartzsch’s car onto the pavement.

She went out to see if she could help the girl driver as she had first aid training for her job.

She said: “It sounded like a trailer going past. We looked out and saw the car on its roof. I wanted to make sure everyone was okay.”

She paid tribute to the emergency services, adding: “The ambulance service was here first and they were very good. They made sure people were calm.”

She added: “The police were brilliant. They were very calm.”

Gimbletts Hardware worker Di Bowles went to see if the driver was hurt. She said at first she had thought a flower display or a bin had fallen into the road but soon realised it was more serious.

She said: “I wanted to see if she was okay. She wiggled herself out.”

Bride Valley Motors took the two Vauxhall cars away and Dorset Highways staff cleared glass, debris and fluid from the road before it was reopened at around 1.45pm.
