Teachers patrolling corridors with wet wipes enforcing make-up ban is too drastic

TEACHERS have allegedly been taking drastic measures in a bid to stop girls wearing make-up during school hours.

In an article published in the Mirror it said pupils at a school in Manchester say staff are patrolling corridors armed with wet wipes and even threatening them with expulsion if they refuse to remove all traces of beauty products.

The newly-enforced rules were allegedly brought in at the Barlow RC High School in Didsbury following the Christmas break.

While I was in high school this was always a problem and an ongoing battle between teenagers and teachers. I think it was a losing battle for the teachers. If they told a student they were wearing too much make up and had to take it off they would simply ignore them. If a teacher took it to the next level and made sure they took it off students would re-apply it shortly after.

I think a lot of girls in schools are very self-conscious about their image and how they look and use make-up to make themselves feel better - don't we all.

Wearing a little bit of make-up - foundation and some mascara - I think is acceptable but when girls come in dressed up like they are going on a night on the town then I think that is where the line should be drawn.

The article said that one girl was told she was going to be expelled because she refused to take her make-up off. I think this is a bit drastic. Surely it would be more beneficial for teachers to talk with the girls and simply explain that the natural look it more beautiful. Going crazy with make-up is a phase I'm sure most girls go through.
