ON Monday and Tuesday last week I was lucky enough to visit the communications team at Dorset County Council for some work experience.

I helped with the latest edition of the Dorset For You paper, preparing the copies for delivery across the county.

I also worked on various paperwork and articles, which gave me a really good insight into a working environment and meeting deadlines throughout the day.

Work experience is invaluable for all young people, so they can get an idea of their future plans, and gain important information regarding the working world.

I found out that the communications team deal with lots of different things, from press releases to responses for newspapers such as the Dorset Echo regarding different articles.

I didn’t realise how much needs to be done, and how much work is involved with the council.

All of the people working in this team provide invaluable services to the county and are all important links in the big metaphorical chain that makes up the council.

They do this by carrying out research, making phone calls, responding to emails and writing articles or press releases.

I am extremely grateful to all at the communications team for taking time out of their busy schedules to tell me all about the work that they do and allowing me be to be a part of that for two days.
