Stereotypes. They haunt our every step and are hidden in every corner of own town and, not just Weymouth, the world.

Despite there being many, I focus on kids being rude, selfish, irresponsible and thuggish. I find this utterly ridiculous– seeing as adults can be all of these things too–and worse.

Young people and children are definitely not all bad. Just take a glance on the internet and there are hundreds of lovely stories of awards for good deeds.

I simply don’t understand why it’s pinpointed at us. School kids on buses are labelled as a must-avoid group, as dodgy, as trouble-makers.

All kids out late at night are up to no good, and not just late because of a delayed bus or traffic. All kids who have a broken nose or a black eye have been in fights and scraps, and have not been playing rugby or hockey. All kids who are joking around are on drugs, and not just having a laugh with their friends.

Why do people assume these things?

Because a few silly young people have made some mistakes and, as a consequence, all younger generations are now irresponsible? How is this fair?

It blows my mind. People need to start believing in the younger generation because we will be in charge in a few years.

Just trust that we aren’t all bad. Next time you’re out and there are children or teenagers near, don’t steer so clear of them- they might just hold the door open for you.
