The value of reading, I think, is becoming less and less important to people in our modern society, particularly as technology is steadily advancing.

People are more likely to be glued to a tv, phone or tablet than a book nowadays, but is this a good thing?

In my opinion, reading is very important as it stretches the mind, widens your vocabulary and improves both your concentration and your learning ability. It is also great fun.

As a consequence of people reading less often, I think children will start to struggle more and more at school as they might not be able to understand or evaluate texts critically.

Employment might become harder to come by in later life as literacy skills are vital.

Writing is a massively significant part of life and reading will enhance those skills. Every subject needs you to be able to read - even maths.

There is also the fun side of reading. Sticking your head into a book can be an amazing way to engage yourself and enjoy some quiet time.

For some, reading can be a way to escape into a world where problems can be solved and endings can be happy.

In some people’s lives, a book can be relaxation from a stressful day or, for others, just a time for fun.

Personally, I always have a book on the go and I can not go without one. I believe reading should be encouraged more.

I feel reading is so important, especially for our younger generations. So, to all parents, please read your child a story tonight to help them with their future.
