Before the new recycling bins were introduced, I put papers in a green bag, tins in a green box and took the plastic bottles to the recycling bin in town.
Now my papers, tins and plastic bottles all go in the same recycling bin.
I contacted Dorset Waste Partnership to ask who now sorts it all out and was told it was done by machine.
I then asked where the machine was and was told that it was in Wales, but from the end of next year it will all be recycled in Dorset.
Surely it would have made much more sense to have the recycling machinery up and running here in Dorset and then to introduce the recycling bins and not have all Dorchester’s recycling waste being tran-sported all the way to Wales.
It does not seem to me to be a very efficient way of conserving energy.
