“Do not over exert yourselves if you suffer from asthma, lung, or chest infections and stay inside if you start to feel dizzy or short of breath.” These were the words of Dr Paul Cosford from Public Health England, such are the levels of air pollution along the South Coast.

He also said that one important way of reducing excessive nitrogen dioxide, and the 20,000 deaths a year directly caused by air pollution, was to reduce car travel and ensure more journeys are made by public transport.

Having made massive cuts to bus services across the county last year, let’s hope DCC heeds the words of Dr Cosford. Our councillors and MPs should be insisting on more money from their masters in central government to avoid any more reductions in services or increases in fares.
