With regard to Mark Burden’s letter (Thursday 17), if it was WDDC who prosecuted someone for not having planning permission to save distressed wild animals then their hypocrisy is unsurpassed.

The white elephant the council built themselves in South Walks met with huge opposition, yet they still went ahead and built it.

Also there is New Poundbury where, it seems, anything goes but because it is Prince Charles’ dream nobody seems to have the courage to stand up and oppose what is being built there.

The initial area around the Brownsword Hall was quite village-like and indeed it was called Poundbury village (how short people’s memories are) but now it’s all beginning to look like a large town.

As for Queen Mother Square, it is an abomination; the sort of building one might expect to find in a city centre.

The development makes a mockery of local planning laws and one wonders why anyone should have to seek planning permission to do anything.
