NOW, I hate to be a party pooper. But the missive from Linda Wood (Your Say, July 5) leaves me feeling a lot puzzled.

Puzzled because it is quite obvious that she has not done even a little bit of homework.

Which of course, is always relevant when talking about why most countries rely on war to solve their problems – and gain territory and so on in the process. And why most countries (in particular, the UK and America for example) like to keep their populace on a constant war footing.

Any excuse is given for it. Even making it up as they go along. Like the so-called War on Terrorism etc.

Simply a device to ensure that the population is kept in a permanent state of fear and foreboding. In other words, control.

Yes, ‘killing another human being is wrong’.

And yes, ‘life is precious’.

Well, she’d better tell that to all those Governments around the world who think nothing of killing thousands at the drop of a hat. Because they can. All killed because it suits them.

Any excuse will do. Oil, gas, territory, the wrong person is in charge somewhere. Or simply, to give the military something to do.

I can personally see no end in sight to the continuing military methodology. Unless someone out there knows better? I won’t hold my breath waiting.
