Many years ago, when I was younger, before the days of Lycra and hybrid bikes, bicycles used to carry this really useful piece of equipment called a bell.
This was to enable other path users that they were behind you. In this way you could try to get your dog to sit and stay as the bike sped past.
The Rodwell trail is one of the few last local places where I am able to walk my very active springer spaniel off the lead, yes, I do cycle as well, and yes I do have a bell.
Opening up the Nothe between the hours of 7 to 9am to enable owners to walk the dogs off the lead would be really good too in the summer months. End of grumble.
