If I could cast readers’ minds back a few weeks to the announcement in the Echo about the completion of cycle routes in the borough, proudly stating that you could now cycle from Portland to Dorchester using only cycle paths.
A result of holier than thou cyclists harping on about road safety.
A result which cost the local authority hundreds of thousands of pounds that would have been better invested in improving our port facilities to keep Condor or fixing the myriad of potholes in the area.
However, I ask myself, this being the case, why oh why do I still see lycra clad individuals cycling along the by-pass between Weymouth town centre and the Morrsions roundabout?
Are they too good for cycle paths?
Do they not care about the expense paid out for their benefit? I don’t know, but what I do know is they are an accident waiting to happen. Cyclists, please stick to the cycle route.
