I, like Alan Chedzoy, (Too much publicity, Dorset Echo, July 28) was appalled at the clear political posturing by all members of the Dorset County Council cabinet in the columns of Your Dorset, which I understood had been ordered by the government to be non-political or cease publication.

At length, each cabinet member told us how they were working ceaselessly for the good of the people of Dorset by continuing to provide services for one and all.

Really?

What they had to say doesn’t merit close examination and I don’t recognise that I am living in the same county as them – a county with an unenviable record of cuts, frequent financial crises and an authority largely out of touch with the population.

Perhaps, then, the cabinet members can explain how they are maintaining bus routes in the county with a topsy-turvy situation of seven buses – most of them empty – running up Dorchester Road in Weymouth in mid-morning in only five minutes, while not far away there are communities with few services or none at all.

Over a dozen years or so, I have had dealings with the county council’s public transport department and found them totally incompetent.

They seem incapable of co-ordinating rail and bus services. Watch for a few moments at Wool station and, better still at Dorchester South, and you will note buses pulling away moments before a train arrives, leaving rail passengers – often with bulky luggage – to find their own way into town.

So, cabinet members, how can your claims be true? We – the people you purport to serve so well – know differently.
