Walking around Weymouth I look at things and think: “I wonder why they do that.”

Whether or not you drive or walk, everyone knows that in the King’s Statue area, there are designated bus stops.

The giveaway is shelters, stationary and moving buses and the road is clearly marked ‘buses’.

Almost every day, you can see taxis pull in and either drop people off then move off, or worse, sit and wait for passengers that have either ‘popped in a shop for a minute’ or have yet to board.

From my observations, the area of the no 1 bus service ranks as the area where most of the taxi pick-ups are in action.

Why do taxi controllers accept fares/customers’ requests to stop in an area that is likely to cause major disruption? Whether or not it is legal, I don’t know, but what I do know is that, day after day, some poor bus driver has to contend with this frustration.

Would it not make sense that when someone phones for a taxi and requests to be either picked up or dropped off on a designated bus waiting area, they are told it is a no-go area or worse, not allowed and select somewhere else?
