The recently held meeting in Chickerell to debate the threatened establishment of a travellers’ site on the old Army camp at Wyke Regis was, on all accounts, a debacle.
When it was questioned as to why the meeting had not taken place in Wyke Regis, the answer was because West Dorset District Council included the site, yet, if the site goes ahead it is the Wyke residents most affected.
It is they who will have to surrender school places and health support.
The best solution would be to hold a meeting with some sort of planning, a proper debate and a final vote, held in Wyke Regis Another solution might be to propose a site close to the councillors’ residence who appear to think a travellers site a good idea.
