I take exception to Andrew Martin’s letter (Have Your Say, January 10).
According to him only two groups are responsible for the nation’s problems, ie public sector workers and those on benefits. I don’t think public sector workers caused the worldwide banking crisis!
These irresponsible bankers milked the system dry and only a few in the US went to jail.
None have ever been prosecuted in the UK and they are still enjoying four, sometimes five figure ‘bonuses’ for their continued failures and the banks are still being fined for PPI and Forex Exchange Rate manipulation.
The other group who you did not mention were ‘global corporations’, eg Starbucks, who do not pay their corporation tax and have their main offices in Luxembourg or other offshore countries to avoid paying their fair share of tax.
These companies avoid tax and are the main culprits of employing their workers on minimum wage and zero hours contracts.
Also if a living wage was paid, the exchequers ‘tax take’ would increase and people working would not need benefits.
I see no ‘social justice’ in berating the ‘poor’ and letting the unscrupulous bankers and large corporations off scot free.
Enough said!
