IT IS all very well Richard Drax (June 26th) moaning about the influx of immigrants – be they of the economic or refugee kind and stating that we have "no more room" in the UK to accommodate them, but what he and many other commentators like him rarely mention is why this unfortunate scenario is happening.

It is directly a cause and effect of primarily American imperialism in the Middle East and their manic obsession with oil. The only reason why Iraq was invaded, twice. Ditto, why Iran is next on the list for a future American-style takeover. Guns blazing.

So in light of what the American military machine has caused in this region, how come they are not taking in any of the refugees and economic migrants from Syria and so on? Why should the UK, Italy and Greece be overwhelmed with these people? Well, to be fair, as a result of Blair doing what he was told to do by George W Bush – getting the UK involved with the expansionist ambitions of the US, I guess we have a duty not to cry wolf when a boatload of refugees/economic immigrants come knocking on our front door.

And where is the American Government when hundreds of people are drowning in the Mediterranean? Where are they, when Greece and Italy are forced to accommodate them? They're probably sat in the White House eating a big bowl of peanuts and drinking Coca Cola and laughing their socks off, whilst we and others pick up the pieces and clean up their mess.
