WHAT sort of world is Ron Kirby of Dorchester living in? (Your Say, July 24) If, as he suggests, all learner drivers should be taken away from towns and villages how on earth will they learn to cope with the town and village traffic? Instead of preventing injury to pedestrians this would only put them at greater risk as the learner drivers would not be able to cope in built up areas.

Driving Instructors need to point out the many problems facing unskilled drivers.

This means they have to drive in these built-up areas, and they are sitting with qualified drivers, who can prevent injuries to the pedestrians, who Mr Kirby is worried about.

If Mr Kirby’s suggestions were implemented it would cause even more problems for both drivers and pedestrians. This smacks of a nimby attitude.
