I REFER to your front page, Saturday July 25: Either Ian Bruce is extremely bad at maths or he cannot tell truth from farce in denying that it is expensive to park in Weymouth.

It costs £1 to park in Dorchester for two hours (works out 50p an hour) in most Weymouth car parks it costs £1.50 for one hour. Thus, Weymouth is three times Dorchester rate and that is if you park in a car park that is £1.50 per hour and not in the most expensive £2 per hour which could, of course, then work out at four times the Dorchester rate.

As to free street parking, how often has he tried to find a space during the day? Who is doing the ‘misleading’ here? Councillor Bruce is quoted as saying Weymouth and Portland Chamber of Commerce ‘misled people’. Surely, the facts – i.e the cost of parking, say it all.

Still, who cares that Weymouth businesses are sure to suffer, as shoppers choose a town so much cheaper to access and shop in? Clearly, Weymouth and Portland Borough Council decision makers do not. Or are they simply all bad at maths?
