I AM a Portlander and hope the funding for Jurassica is not found.

The thought of all those visitors scares me.

Unless they have some miracle road plan which I very much doubt, it will just be increasing the traffic nightmare that already exists.

Scarier still is the thought that Dorset County Council traffic planners would be involved.

They’ve done an exceptional job with the traffic lights in Weymouth.

Against all the odds, they exceeded all expectations and managed to make the problem a million times worse than before!

Our dimwitted short-sighted councillors scuppered any hopes of Portland having a decent access road with the planning approval at Ferrybridge. This was Portland’s only real solution.

What road measures do they think they can put into place to prevent further tailbacks given the visitor numbers expected?

I don’t believe that the locals of Portland, Wyke and surrounding affected areas want this to go ahead. How many at the open weekend that were supportive would actually be directly affected?

After all I’m sure Mr Attenborough is really concerned about those who live here.

The councillors go on about the Jurassic coast and how important it is especially to tourism yet they’ve not repaired the parts of the path around Portland that are now too dangerous to walk.

What about the overgrown paths and pavements, the brambles that are taking over across the island, I carry secateurs on my walks to help keep the paths clear, where’s the council's concerns for tourism etc here then?

Portland is visited for its scenery, the non-touristy feel, it’s natural beauty. I fear for Portland, it’s slowly being ruined. Those who are pushing this forward can spout about it being for the good of Portland but to those of us who love the island we know it boils down to one thing... money, and that the majority of that will be lining the pockets of those far from Portland... and the gridlock.
