YET another Echo front page (October 22) is given over again to the ongoing deaths on the roads of Dorset.
Nineteen so far this year.
Many of which, probably, could have been avoided.
This time, the “Highways chief Peter Finney”, appears to be searching for a solution to halt this unfortunate carnage on the roads of Dorset.
Well, the answer is blindingly simple. And no, it isn’t more "education" or "awareness". Because, let’s be honest, that has never worked. And never will.
No, the only answer is heavy fines and meaningful driving bans.
Not a slap on the wrist. Speed is the biggest cause of most road traffic accidents.
And until this is tackled and stopped via monetary enforcement with those that think it is appropriate to drive as fast as they possibly can no matter where or what the road may be, you may as well take down all the speed restriction signs and put them in the bin.
After all, most people take no notice anyway. It is foot to the metal and damn the consequences.
