FOR the last eight years or so, with the able assistance of my Rotary colleagues, I have demonstrated and lectured about the disaster charity Shelterbox which brings shelter, warmth and dignity to families who have lost everything in a natural or man-made disaster anywhere in the world.

I have recently been diagnosed with colonic cancer and am therefore unable to continue my work for Shelterbox.

But what I would like to do is thank you, the people of Weymouth and South Dorset for your incredible generosity towards people who you have never met and ask if any one of you would like to take up where I have been forced to leave off and continue the extremely rewarding work.

Please see shelterbox.org and follow the “volunteer” links or contact me on ian@brookephoto.co.uk. You do not have to be a Rotarian.

I am devastated to have to give up the job that has been part of my life for so long but I want you to know that since January, you good people have donated an incredible £9,570.

So on behalf of, Shelterbox, The Rotary Club of Melcombe Regis and the families who have received the aid which you have paid for, thank you.
