HAVING learned to swim myself in the Beaminster pool and my children at Bridport Leisure Centre, I am saddened that both pools, which are so essential for the community’s fitness, safety and enjoyment, could be closed within the year.

With so many school pools closing over the past 20 years, there is now limited access to well-managed and maintained pools.

Swimming clubs, primary schools and fitness classes actually need more poolside hours to fulfil their demand and the government’s educational curriculum. I, more than most, understand and know the associated costs in running a pool, so recognise the funding difficulties that both are having. It is therefore essential that, as a community, we support both pools and canvas WDDC to continue to provide the funding that is required.
