ON JULY 4, I purchased a weekly permit from the council for our annual two week holiday in Weymouth.
On Tuesday I was disgusted to find a letter posted through the door that stated around 200 spaces will be restricted all week next week.
The alternative arrangements are for most of those missing spaces to be allowed to park in the Pavilion car park. This affects both the permit that came with the property which is an F permit as well as the permit I purchased from the council.
On top of this it is the first week of the school holidays which results in extra visitors to the town anyway which makes parking difficult .
This is going to severely restrict our holiday as once we have got parked up we won’t be able to move it and explore the area as we usually do. Even short journeys need to be done by car as my grandmother is disabled.
If I had wanted to leave the car in one place all week I could have found a free parking space and left it there rather than pay £38 a week for the privilege by purchasing a permit.
The fact this has been done in high season astounds me, yet again Weymouth council puts short term gain ahead of the holidaymakers that return year after year bringing revenue to this town. We had to put up with the disruption for two years prior to the Olympics as well as Olympic year itself and this may well be the last straw for us ever coming here again.
