THE sporting comparison to the referendum made by Mr Common sense (Views from the Web, July 18) is one I have heard frequently over the past few weeks, and it is singularly inappropriate.

After a football match, some people are pleased, some are disappointed, and life goes on pretty much as it did before.
Post referendum, we are witnessing the most momentous political upheaval in decades.

Do Brexiters think they are the only ones with hopes and ideas?
When I went to bed on June 23, I was living in a tolerant forward looking and outgoing country.

When I woke up the next morning I appeared to have time travelled back to the 1950s and some of my fellow citizens now seem to think it was patriotic to heap vile racial abuse on people.

What am I supposed to feel: Proud? Elated?
