Ice and compacted snow make Dorset's minor roads a nightmare

Pete Jackson beside his Milklink tanker
THIS footage shot near Milton Abbas today (Dec 2) illustrates how compacted snow and ice has turned minor roads into skating rinks.
Pete Jackson’s Milklink tanker got stuck half way up a hill in Long Close, near Milton Abbas, for almost an hour en route to collecting milk from a local farm. But with the help of a farmer, a digger and heaps of salt he finally made it through just before 4pm.
One farmer near Ringstead Bay was unable to get his milk picked-up at all because the tanker couldn’t navigate the snow-bound lane.
With forecasters predicting plunging temperatures and the possibility of more snow, conditions are likely to get worse tonight.
The only winners were children off school for the day who enjoyed the best snow in 17 years.
