MARK Ford is backing the Terras to build on their recent upturn in fortunes by advancing in the FA Trophy this weekend.

The talented sharpshooter led Weymouth to a second successive league victory last Saturday by netting a hat-trick against Hitchin Town and he is determined to see the momentum continue.

Looking ahead to the second qualifying round home tie against Shortwood United, Ford said: “We desperately wanted to put another three points on the board last weekend and the fact I scored a hat-trick in a 3-2 win was very pleasing.

“We never seem to do it the easy way at home though and this was another one of those occasions.

“However, the way we dominated the second half should give us a lot of confidence and hopefully we can now take that level of performance into the Shortwood game this Saturday.”

Ford has now netted five times in the league this season but he knows he needs to continue doing the business in order to retain his place. He added: “It was a bit frustrating when I was on the bench at the start of the campaign but the gaffer said a chance would come my way and now it is up to me to take it.

“The aim now is to keep working hard in training and carry on making the most of every opportunity.”

The Terras, whose last seven home games have witnessed an incredible 30 goals, will claim a prize pot of £3,250 if they overcome Shortwood, who currently lie 17th in Evo-Stik Division One South & West.
