TORNADOES performed well in a tough National Arena League Division One final.

The Portland club, which has achieved a meteoric rise in the league since returning to Division Three in 2010, earned their place in the final after two hard-fought rounds.

It was a competitive showpiece as the Tornadoes swapped places throughout the night with City of Salisbury.

However, it was Salisbury’s night as South Dorset was pipped for seventh place.

Delighted Tornadoes’ head coach Phil Daniels said: “This was a good result considering we are probably one of the smallest club in the National Arena (Western) League who have not combined as a joint club nor have the luxury of a large catchment area.

“Our swimmers have done pretty well against the much larger clubs of the likes of Swindon, Yeovil, City of Salisbury and Bristol who have strength in depth.”

“I am particularly pleased for Georgia Eiles-Clarke and Tom Mules who led the loyal team by example as team and club captains throughout the past 12 months.

“Both inspired all the other swimmers in the team to do their best.

“They have demonstrated immense loyalty to the club and team-mates and have shown pride and confidence in carrying out their duties.

“I’ve been coaching swimming for a long time and can honestly say that the group of swimmers I have at the moment here at South Dorset are the best group overall I have ever had the privilege to coach.

“They are very positive in training and competitions.”
