BRENDON King was all smiles after Weymouth hit the Poppies for six at Steel Park last night.

The long midweek trip had all the hallmarks of a potential banana skin but the Terras are made of a lot sterner stuff nowadays and fought back from conceding early on to record an emphatic victory.

Speaking after the 6-1 success over the basement boys, King told Echosport: “It is a monster trip up there.

“We left at 1.30pm and did not get there until 6.45pm which threw our preparations a bit ahead of kick-off, and before we knew it we were a goal down inside two minutes. However, we then came back to lead 3-1 at half-time and once we got the fourth in the second half it was plain sailing.

“To give Kettering credit they did have a go at us for 10 minutes just after the break in which they forced Simon Evans into a decent save, but to be honest we were always in control.

“We then went on to grab two more in the closing stages so overall it made the journey worthwhile, particularly for the supporters that came up here with us.

“It is another three points in the bag which takes us up to 46 and that is nice too because that was one of the targets the chairman wanted to get to.”

Mark Ford grabbed two for the Terras while their other goals came from Ed Palmer, Stephen Reed, Matt Groves and Ben Joyce.

The result has taken King’s men to within two points of the play-offs while for Kettering it was their eighth defeat on the spin.
