WEYMOUTH RESERVES 2 SWANAGE T&H RESERVES 3

JAKE Richmond has called on the Terras to learn from their mistakes following their home defeat against Swanage Town & Herston.

After falling victim to a couple of debatable decisions in the first half, the joint-boss could have easily questioned the standard of the officials after the game but instead he chose to focus on his own team’s shortcomings instead.

Richmond told Echosport: “I could go on about decisions but that would just be sour grapes.

“At the end of the day we had enough chances in the second half to win the game and when you don’t take them you always run the risk of being punished, and that is exactly what happened with their late winner.

“We have now conceded seven goals in the last 10 minutes of seven different games and four of those have come in the last two minutes, so it is something we desperately need to sort out.

“You can put it down to fitness, naivety or even a willingness to do well and try and win the game, but whatever it is, it cannot continue.

“We have been on a good run of late but we have got to learn to play for 90 minutes plus injury time because conceding these late goals is killing us and have cost us dear in several games already this season.

“We also need to take our chances when we are on top in games because at the moment we are missing far too many.”

Richmond refused to comment on the controversial moments that led to Swanage’s first two goals, one of which came from a penalty and the other a free-kick, but he did give Swanage the credit they deserved.

He added: “They outplayed us in the first half when we just didn’t get tight enough to them.

“They have a midweek team and a Saturday team, and they had a lad at the back called Aaron Corby, who played for Poole Town last year.

“He was quality and on the evidence of that opening 45 minutes I would go as far to say they were the best team we have played.

“Tom Bell then gave us a lifeline by turning in a corner at the far post just before half-time and from there we went on to create quite a few chances in the second half, with Luke Winsper, Matt Morley and Simon Crouch all being denied by good saves.

“Luke then finally got us back level on 78 minutes by beating a couple of people and finding the net via a deflection, but to be fair Swanage then stepped it up again in the last five minutes when we were really hanging on.

“It was real last-ditch stuff at times and in the end they grabbed a third with a great finish from 20 yards.

“I felt for the lads afterwards because they really deserved something from the game but as I said there are still lessons that need to be learned”

The Terras will look to bounce back at Sherborne Town Reserves tomorrow (2pm) when the squad could be boosted by the return of Sanchez Baker and Lee Sharpe.
