DORCHESTER 14 BOURNEMOUTH ROYALS 2

DORCHESTER enjoyed a comprehensive Wessex League victory over their Bournemouth counterparts.

The county town home rink of Frank Follis, Clive Matthews, Alan Curtis and Jamie Lockwood had a slow start against R Rankine, P Bland, E Knight and A Bryant and after 14 ends they were 16-5 down.

However, they picked up 13 shots over the last seven ends to win 18-16.

It was a different story on the other home rink of Jim Kelly, Gary Mumford, Pete Clarke and Stevie Huttley where they raced into a 28-9 lead after 15 ends against J Pocknell, T Norte, J Coles and D Ridyard but then never scored another shot but still won 28-18.

Dorchester's travelling quartet of Robbie Legg, Ashley Jury, Barry Day and Dean Curtis went from being 9-6 down after 10 ends to 16-9 up after 15 against C Quick, G Simmonds, J Turgel and N Newbury.

However, they dropped seven shots on the next end to go into the last five ends at 16-16. The Bournemouth four failed to score again and the county town rink won 23-16.

The other travelling four of Brian Paulson, David Bonnett, Dave Glanville and Roger Nicholas were not so successful against T Broad, G Finn, C Brown and W Foulger.

At the halfway stage they were 19-3 down and with five ends to go were 24-8 behind. A strong finish by the Dorchester quartet closed the gap and they eventually lost 24-19 but, more importantly, helped the overall shot score.

MOONFLEET B 2 DORCHESTER B 4

THE county town claimed a fine Purbeck League B victory at Moonfleet.

Dorchester trio Gerald Cornick, Gary Mumford and Roger Nicholas came up against Moonfleet’s Tony Colton, Roy Paul and Pat Rod.

The result was never in doubt with the county town trio racing into a 19-4 lead after 10 ends and they maintained the pressure to win 25-10.

The other Dorchester three of Colin Ackerman, Dave Glanville and Pete Clarke came up against Brian Martindill, Jim Hamilton and StJ Corben and were 17-8 down after 10 ends, eventually losing 23-12, but Dorchester took the points for the overall shots score.

DOLPHIN B 2 DORCHESTER B 4

DOLPHIN were sunk by Dorchester in the B section of the Purbeck League.

The county town trio of Peter Stevenson, Gary Mumford and Roger Nicholas travelled to Dolphin where they met Dolphin’s R Sweatland, M Jones and C Wake.

The visitors went into a 5-1 lead but dropped six shots and a single to go 8-5 behind. Wake’s triple did not score again for eight ends and were 16-8 down with four to go with the county town side running out 20-11 winners.

The other Dorchester rink of Colin Ackerman, Barry Day and Pete Clarke were always behind against P Couts, D Sharpe and J Andrews and were 12-3 down after 10 ends.

However, they staged a rally and closed the gap to 12-8, eventually losing 15-11.
