FOUR more players have verbally agreed new deals at the Terras to the delight of boss Brendon King.

Experienced campaigner Barry McConnell is set to sign for a further year while youngsters Sam Poole, Ashley Wells and Mark Ford are ready to put pen to paper on contracts that will run until May 2015.

King told Echosport: “Sam, Ash and Fordy have all agreed two-year deals, which is fantastic as they are all a big part of the football club.

“They are the right age and they have the right hunger, and in many ways the world is their oyster.

“There is no reason why those three cannot kick on now and hopefully that will be with us for a long time to come.

“They have all done well and really deserve it.

“The club has not always been in a position to offer those types of contracts but being young lads with such bright futures we felt it was the right thing to do.

“Barry has also agreed to sign for another year, which is also important.

“He has exceptional experience and is still extremely fit for his age (36). He is also very calm on the ball and a player the younger lads can really learn a lot from.”

Poole, Wells and Ford were all plucked out of the Magna Dorset Premier League and King believes the progress they have made over the past 18 months has been incredible.

He added: “It is still a very short space of time since those three made the step up from the DPL and it just goes to show what can be achieved if people have got the desire for it.

“I also think playing alongside experienced players like Barry, Scott Walker and Danny Clay has really helped them a lot, and as long as they keep working hard they are only going to get better with every game they play.”

In other news, Ed Palmer picked up his 10th booking of the season at Stourbridge last Saturday when Craig Duff also received a straight red card for violent conduct. Both men are now set to serve suspensions and King is eager to find cover.

He said: “Ed and Craig are both available to face Ches-ham at home this Saturday but after that they will face two and three-match suspensions respectively.

“I have been working hard to try and get someone in on loan as cover and I am currently just waiting to hear on one or two things. Hopefully I will get some more news soon.”

* The Dorset FA has asked Weymouth chairman Nigel Biddlecombe to comment on the situation that occurred in the vicinity of the referee’s dressing room following the Dorset Senior Cup semi-final defeat against Wimborne Town on February 27.

The development comes after the Terras lodged an official complaint about the lack of medical provisions at the game, which saw Kyle Critchell suffer a fractured ankle.
