THE nine Dorset Youth and Girls’ Finals escaped the adverse weather, much to the credit of the ground staff of King George V Playing Fields at Ferndown, although a cold biting breeze affected all those attending.

Corfe Mullen United were the most successful club on the day, winning three of the cups, the Under-15 and the Under-13, where in each case Branksome United were the runners-up, and also in the Under-12 girls’ competition where they beat Real Weymouth.

Ilchester United won the Under-16 Cup, beating Blandford United 6-1, with Andy Hill scoring a hat-trick for the victors.

Blandford United were also runners-up in the Under-10 Mini-Soccer final, losing 1-0 to Weymouth in an exciting lunchtime showpiece.

The largest score of the day came in the Under-14 Girls’ final where Wimborne Town hit 11 without reply against Chickerell United.

Lucy Cuff scored four times and Emma King three for Wimborne.

Dorset’s first nine versus nine County Cup competition was won by Dorchester Town.

With the scores level after extra-time, the county town team beat Poole Town Wessex 4-3 on penalties.

One of the best games of the day was in the Under-12 final, a Poole derby match. Poole Town Youth led 2-0 before Poole Town Wessex hit back in the second half to score two goals to take the match to extra-time.

Dan Fairburn got the only goal in extra-time to win the cup for Poole Town.

Most of the match officials were supplied by the Dorset Referees’ Youth Academy, ably supported by their mentors and coaches, all of which contributed to a fantastic day for Dorset Youth and Girls’ football.
