TOMORROW the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA) will be showing off its facilities with an Open Day.

The world-class sailing venue is inviting local residents to visit the site at Osprey Quay, Portland from 10am until 4pm, and experience first-hand the sports and facilities the academy and on-site partners have to offer.

Entry is free for the event and taster sessions are available including dinghy sailing with SailLaser, windsurfing and stand-up paddle boarding at the Official Test Centre (OTC) and rock climbing, mountain biking, coasteering and kayaking with Weymouth College’s Outdoor Adventure Centre.

Each taster activity will take about one-and-a-half hours and costs £15 per person.

Refreshments will be available at the academy’s cafe plus a barbecue held at lunch time.

The Open Day will also see the launch of Chesil Sailability, a new venture that aims to help more disabled people to experience the thrill of sailing.

Chesil Sailability, which has the backing of Portland Paralympic-class sailor Megan Pascoe, has been inspired by the London 2012 Games and is being run by a small team of volunteers.

Anyone who would like to find out more about the opportunities available for disabled people to get out on the water or to get involved as volunteers is urged to meet the team at the WPNSA Outdoor Show tomorrow, from 10am to 4pm, or email info@chesilsailability.org.uk To book taster activities call the WPNSA on 01305 866000.
