PORTLAND Red Triangle captain Simon Barrett has had to ring the changes for tomorrow’s visit of Ferndown Wayfarers Seconds to Reforne (1pm).

Fourth hosts third in Dorset League Division Three with the home side aiming to preserve their unbeaten record this season.

However, they will have to do it without Ryan Price, John Walker, Tony Morris, Matt Barrett and Eliel Thureirajah, who are all unavailable.

In are Scott Males, George Munroe, Gareth Price and Chris Theakstone with Simon Proffitt likely to be the fifth change.

Portland enjoyed a comfortable win over Broadstone Thirds last time out and skipper Barrett is upbeat about his side’s chances, especially on home soil.

“After last week’s win we are looking forward to it,” he said. “When we are at home I fancy us to beat most teams in our league.

“If we do our best I’m confident we can come away with a win but we can’t be complacent.”

Portland Red Triangle Seconds travel to local rivals Abbotsbury in Division Five North & West with morale high after an eight-wicket victory over Martins-town.

They will be strengthened by the return of strike bowler John Cameron and all-rounders Aaron Riley and Ian Springer.

In Division Two, Beaminster entertain Bournemouth at the Memorial Field (2pm) and take on a team that was bowled out for just 63 in a massive defeat to Compton House last Saturday.

All-rounder Julian Davies comes in for the hosts with captain Will Everitt looking for his men to spend more time at the crease after some below-par performances with the bat.

“I think everybody who plays has the potential to score runs,” he said. “I just think that with it still being early in the season the application isn’t quite there yet.

“It will come but everyone looks like they need time at the crease.

“The likes of Richard Runyard, Dan Hillier and Ross Baker are more than capable of scoring a lot of runs but it hasn’t quite clicked for them yet.”

He added: “Bournemouth is a big club so could have players coming back from injury who are normally playing in a higher division.

“But we are back at home where hopefully everyone will be able to play and we can do a job on them.

“The side will be pretty similar to last Saturday with Julian coming in.

“He’s not a regular but plays a few games a season and will strengthen the bowling attack.”

Beaminster Seconds go to Stalbridge Thirds in Division Six.

Meanwhile, Bridport can keep their good start to the season going in Division Four when they visit Kingston Lacy (2pm).

Both sides picked up wins last weekend but, like Portland, Bridport have a number of players missing, including Ash Nicholls, Callum Pattinson, Jamie Dollman and Toby Hall.

Captain Liam Toohill did think he would be without in-form all-rounder Dom Gape and opener Rod Gay but both are good to go.

Toohill said: “Our bowling is looking alright so hopefully we can do well with the ball.

“Rod Gay has batted well at the top of the order alongside Mark Smith so it’s good he is available as is Dom Gape.

“There has been a really good team spirit in the first three games and we’ve got a good mix of older and younger players.

“We’ve had four or five good performances a game and everyone has contributed something.”
