STEPHEN Reed is looking forward to a new chapter in his career after departing the Bob Lucas Stadium.

The Devon-based midfielder was told his services would not be required next season just last week, and it appears he is relieved to be leaving.

Speaking exclusively to Echosport, Reed said: “I have been down at Weymouth for five or six years now, on and off, and to be honest I am sick of the sight of that coast road.

“It was probably time I moved on anyway and now I am looking forward to a new chapter in my career.

“I have had a fantastic time at Weymouth and the majority of the people down there have been great, particularly the fans.

“I stuck with it during difficult times and I was there when it was good too, but travelling up there two or three times a week is a big commitment over the course of a season, and I think it’s now time for something new.”

First-team boss Brendon King was the one that broke the news to Reed but it has left no ill-feelings.

The 27-year-old added: “I am just glad he has told me. Brendon has always been honest with me and never let me down on the football side of things so I respect his decision.

“However, I do think he was put under a bit of pressure by some of the board who took a dislike to me during the George Rolls era, but that’s neither here nor there.

“I wish the club the best and hope they kick on now. As for me there are a few options on the table already but I am just going to take my time, enjoy my summer break and then take things from there.”

When asked whether he feels the Terras can go on and achieve promotion next season, Reed went on to say: “From what I am hearing they are going to throw a bit of money at it and have a go.

“If they decide to do that, expectations will naturally go up and they will have to deliver. Hopefully they can do that but it won’t be easy as it’s a difficult league.

“Had we strengthened a bit in January we may have pushed on last season but instead we ended up going backwards.

“I still feel had we signed a couple of decent players at that time it would have put us in with a great shout, but I suppose everyone at the club is on a learning curve at the minute and hopefully it will lead to some success in the future.”
