MAGPIES 0 WESTON 3

THE Magpies paid the penalty for some costly misses as they went down to defeat in their first home match of the season.

And it was two spot-kicks, one either side of the interval, that helped Weston to what was in the end a comfortable victory.

The 3-0 reverse means it is back-to-back losses for Dorchester at the start of their Skrill South campaign with no goals scored in 180 minutes of football so far.

The fact that the hosts won their first corner in the 25th minute says a lot about their attacking threat before the break.

They were sloppy in possession, seemed to give Weston too much time on the ball and there was no end product at all.

Weston weren't too much better in the final third but the match sprang into life midway through the half when hesitation in the Magpies' defence resulted in Phil Simkin's men conceding another penalty.

And, like last Saturday at Staines, it was keeper Tim Sandercombe who was guilty of committing the foul that led to the spot-kick.

Tristan Plummer converted from 12 yards and Sandercombe was cautioned by referee Andy Laver, though the Weston bench and players clearly felt he should have been dismissed.

Ashley Kingston squandered a great chance to double the visitors' lead before Ben Watson almost found the net twice in the space of 30 seconds.

The first came when Charlie Clough took matters into his own hands, surging through the midfield, finding Jamie Beasley on the left and Watson couldn't quite get his foot around his cross.

Moments later he went through on goal but this time didn't connect properly and sliced wide of the target.

At the other end, Sandercombe made a great save to deny Plummer after the striker showed some quick feet in the Magpies' area.

Brandon Goodship, on-loan at the Avenue from Bournemouth, was introduced to the fray at half-time and Watson went within inches of heading the hosts level just after the restart.

Both Clough and Luke Purnell were yellow-carded for a foul and time wasting respectively and there was definitely more bite to the Dorchester play although nothing was quite falling their way in the danger zone.

But, just after the hour mark, Dorchester were caught by a sucker punch when Kingston pulled the ball back for Dayle Grubb to smash into the roof of the net.

The game became very niggly after that and Kane Ingram, Kingston and Plummer were all booked for the away side with Nick Crittenden following suit for the hosts.

And the game was over on 86 minutes when Jermyn brought down Kayne McClaggan just inside the box and the substitute dusted himself down to fire past Sandercombe.

With Danny Green and Jermyn leaving the field with knocks in the second-half the Magpies look like they could be down to the bare bones on Saturday when Whitehawk are the visitors.
