PHIL Simkin has made it clear that he has no intention of quitting as Dorchester Town manager.

Speaking after his side’s 6-2 drubbing by Whitehawk on Saturday, the Magpies’ boss vowed not to walk away in light of his side’s poor start to the season.

However, if the Community Trust, the joint majority shareholders in the club, wanted his resignation he would oblige.

“One thing is for sure, I won’t quit,” Simkin told Echosport. “I’m not a quitter and I would never do that.

“If the trust feel that they could get someone in who could do a better job they are welcome to do it.

“If they want my resignation they can have it.

“But, quite frankly, I’m not a quitter and I’ve got no intention to quit.

“I shall work at it and work at it until I either get it right or don’t get it right.

“If there is anyone that can do any better, that’s fine.

“I’ve got a proven record and I don’t have to prove anything to anybody.”

He added: “Last season I was the most successful manager this club has ever had at this level.

“This season remains to be seen but I won’t quit.

“If the trust feel they need to change things then that’s their prerogative.

“I’ve got a contract which I intend to honour and it’s up to them if they want to do the same.”

Simkin hasn’t got long to pick his players up after Saturday’s debacle at the Avenue.

They go to Gosport Borough today (3pm) sitting bottom of the Skrill South table without a point from three games.

And, like most people, the Magpies’ chief was taken aback by the Whitehawk mauling.

“I was absolutely stunned,” he said. “I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. We couldn’t handle their number eight (Danny Mills) and he caused us all sorts of problems.

“I remember going down to Weymouth and getting beaten 8-0 and these things do happen.

“It’s important you don’t forget them but it’s also important you move on and we’ve got a chance to bounce back on Monday at Gosport and knowing us we just might do that.

“We’re bottom of the pile at the moment and we’ll just have to see where we go from here.

“I’ve got no scope to bring anyone in so I’ve got what I’ve got. I’ll ring around and ask for favours but it’s going to be difficult.”

Simkin admitted skipper Mark Jermyn shouldn’t have played on Saturday but with players out injured he feels he was left with no option.

He also confirmed defender Arran Pugh will play today despite not being match fit after a groin problem, while Danny Green is out for at least another week.
